I'm certainly willing to give commentpress a shot, Holly, although, like you, I feel that being limited to a holistic comment may be a good thing. Actually, with our class blog I would try to cut and paste bits of student writing and respond to them but that proved cumbersome.

I routinely use the comment function of Word when I send back my students' work electronically, so commenting locally on students' blogs seems right for me.

As I say, I'll check this information out.
