Has anyone else out there over committed themselves this year? In addition to teaching (which is plenty), I'm on Faculty Senate and I'm on committees and more committees. I'm also part of an E-portfolio pilot at SLCC, and as part of that I'm on something called an E-portfolio task force, which sounds vaguely like law enforcement, but isn't nearly so exciting. Not once since being a member of the E-portfolio task force have I had occasion to say in a Clint Eastwood-like-way, "Hey punk!" I'm not sure about this, but I think it may be just another committee assignment.
Anyway, the point is I feel overwhelmed. I don't have anything particularly enlightening or informative to say about this. It's just a fact I want recorded for posterity.
Also this: I'm finally learning how to say no. Time was I would say yes to everything. But just last week I sent an email to a colleague saying, "I'm sorry L, but I can't be on X committee this year." I paused and let my fingers rest on the keypad before I finally mustered the courage to click send.
